Missed plane + power cut + cold shower = safe arrival!!

10390009_10202970941808836_3146827283167085034_nWe have arrived in Beira, Mozambique!! Our eventful Mozambican adventure started off early in the airport at Johannesburg on Thursday morning when we missed our flight due to waiting a long time sorting out our luggage for cargo. We did arrive at the check in desk with an hour to go before the flight but with 3 minutes to go before the check in for our flight closed, we were sent away!! This was a real disappointment and frustration for us as we just wanted to get to our destination. When one thing goes wrong it is easy to question everything and it does put doubts in your mind. However, we picked ourselves up again and managed to get a flight with a different airline the same day!

We arrived at our new home early evening and it was pitch black – there was a power cut! So we were shown around the house by candlelight and just so happened to find the rechargeable lamp we bought with us in one of the suitcases. Even though it is the beginning of Winter here, it is boiling hot so the best way to cool down was a cold shower, though we also had no choice of a hot shower as the power was off! Then just as we were going off to sleep, the lights turned on, so like excited children we got up to have a proper look around!

I, Liz, had forgotten what it is like to be a foreigner in a strange land and to stick out with nowhere to hide. Neither of us have ever visited the continent of Africa so everything is new to us, though it is a relief to be able to speak to people in Portuguese even if it is not quite the same as theirs.

We thank God for our safe travels, and thanks to everyone for your prayers. We are nervously excited to adapt to the way of life here and look forward to posting more stories along the way.
